WELCOME

We are thrilled to present the 1st International Colloquium on Aristotle's Organon. This event is the result of a group effort to organize an international academic event in which we will gather exceptional academics and researchers to discuss openly and critically a number of topics of Aristotle's philosophy.

For this edition of the International Colloquium, we have chosen Aristotle's Organon as the main topic. This may come as no surprise to some and to others a great deal. The former may easily have expected of an incipient academic event on Aristotle's work to have turned its sights firstly to the beginning of the Corpus Aristotelicum and to have matched it with the event's own inauguration. However, for others, our intention may seem the product of mere chance, a random outcome of our current research interests. Neither of the two groups would miss completely the mark. For the main goal of this first colloquium is to establish a beginning for a series of future events which will tackle different works in Aristotle's philosophy. As luck would have it, Aristotle's Organon sits on the very beginning of his corpus and some of our own interests happen to be focused on this part of Aristotelian thought. The decision turned out to be quite natural.

As a result of this idea, we have managed to gather a number of important researchers who have played a major role in contemporary discussions on Aristotle's philosophy, especially on the Organon. As luck would have it once again, they were generous enough to accept our invitations. Please do check the Speakers section on this website. We are more than delighted to have their presence in our event.

Lastly, we have aimed at creating an event in which detailed discussions can take place. The disparity between countries in dealing with the current health crisis is evidently an element which was taken into consideration at this moment. Therefore, the 1st International Colloquium will be an exclusively online event. In the future, we hope that the possibility of an exchange of ideas in person will be reached

Acknowledgements: We thank the Department of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo for their support throughout the event, our speakers for their willingness to debate ideas and, last but not least, our audience. Thank you.
